In a previous article, we spoke about what is happening in Sidmouth (Devon) during the first week of August: Sidmouth Folk Festival.
Further down the line, from 23rd to 28th September 2013 is Chagford Film Festival!
"...Chagford is a charming Devon town, nestling on the eastern edge of Dartmoor..."
The quaint festival's programme looks rather attractive as well - of course, nothing to do with Cannes Film Festival or even Deauville...but something to keep you busy between Dartmoor's walks, seascapes or the occasional cream-tea.
Some people might question the kind of budget behind such remote but complete event!
The programme is divided in 2 sections:
- Workshops & Events,
- Film Screenings.
This is the way to make some money - and ticket prices aren't highly tagged. It is really something for the family and not just for individuals in tuxedo or evening dresses.
"...Chagford Film Festival was established in 2011 by the Globe Inn with three aims:
to support local businesses, to raise funds for charity and too have fun!..." source
Let's make it clear, you won't meet Silvester Stallone, Leonardo Di Caprio or other A list actors...but it seems to be a great moment with like-minded people and who said that you need to have celebrities to make it interesting? Simple things are usually better - the atmostphere is certainly warm and welcoming too.
The other thing, it is not because it's happening in the Westcountry, that it is not as good as a social occasion in London.
Being in its third year, there is a real crowd behind it with certainly some "regulars" and avid fans.
Yes indeed, Devon is rich with talents and great independent organisations. Pop-up events are also starting to appear here and there and local filmmakers have what it takes as well. Not only the makers are from the Southwest of England but the acting force too. Who said that a strategy recruitment from London was necessary to build something with a strong foundation?
So, if you are spending your Summer holidays around the Jurassic Coast, why not extend your stay and attend/discover this off the tracks festival?
Tickets will go on sale from 26th August 2013. For more information visit the dedicated Contact page.
